A Manchester social club has slashed its electricity bills by more than half thanks to a new solar energy system installed by Warmer Energy Solutions.
Salisbury Conservative Club, based on Ashton Road in Droylsden, installed a 26 kW solar photovoltaic (PV) system with battery storage earlier this year to help safeguard its future against rising energy costs.
The project, delivered and commissioned by North West-based renewables specialist Warmer Energy Solutions in April 2025, was jointly funded by the club and the Association of Conservative Clubs (ACC). The ACC provided a loan for 50 % of the total cost, while the club raised the remaining funds through community donations and bar profits.
As a non-profit organisation, the club plays a vital role in the local community, providing a social hub and hosting functions for residents. However, with electricity-intensive operations including cellar cooling, fridges running 24/7, and lighting for evening events, rising bills had become a major concern.
“Our aim was simple, we had to reduce our electricity bills and make the club more sustainable for the long term,” said David Farrington, a member of the club’s board.
“Since the system was switched on, our average bills have fallen from around £1,100 to just £400 per month. The savings alone are covering the repayments on the ACC loan, so it’s paying for itself.”
The 58-panel array is paired with a two 10 kW batteries. This allows the club to store solar power generated during the day for use during evening opening hours.
In addition to the savings, the club has also begun exporting surplus energy to the grid, receiving ÂŁ876.82 in rebates from its energy supplier in just six months.
“It’s been a real success story,” Farrington added. “The installation was completed in just four days, with no disruption to our normal operations. Warmer were professional throughout and we’re now seeing the benefits every single month.”
Charlie Mullan, Managing Director at Warmer Energy Solutions, said: “Community organisations like Salisbury Conservative Club are feeling the impact of rising energy costs just as much as households and businesses. Solar and storage systems like this are a fantastic way to protect those vital local spaces while reducing carbon emissions and supporting the transition to renewable energy.”
The installation forms part of Warmer Energy Solutions’ growing portfolio of commercial and community energy projects, helping landlords and community organisations of all sizes to lower their running costs and cut their carbon footprint.
